Without necessarily convincing, PSG won on Wednesday on home soil against Brest, in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France (3-1).
Eliminated in the round of 16 in the last two years by Nice and Olympique de Marseille, Paris Saint-Germain has already done better this season since Luis Enrique’s men escaped the trap set by Stade Brestois on Wednesday evening near the Parc des Princes, as part of the round of 16 of the Coupe de France. Sometimes mishandled but never sunk, the Parisians once again relied on the talent of Kylian Mbappé, again a scorer (3-1).
One week before the match between them and Real Sociedad, in the round of 16 first leg of the Champions League, PSG started their Coupe de France match with difficulty. Very lively, the Brestois immediately put pressure on the opposing defense with several clear chances, including this ball from Satriano which crashed into the post of Donnarumma’s cage (29th). The PSG goalkeeper had to work a minute later to deflect Magnetti’s half-volley.
Mbappé unblocks the situation again
Tossed around, Paris was then on the verge of rupture. And then suddenly… On a ball lost by the Breton defense, Mbappé appeared. Once again, the Bondynois scored a goal which got his team out of the rut (1-0, 34th). A first blow to the head of the Brestois followed by a second, three minutes later, this time scored by Danilo (2-0, 37th). Enough to allow PSG to return to the locker room with a significant lead.
All the more important as Stade Brestois will reduce the gap shortly after the hour mark. Too quiet, Paris saw Mounié find the fault (2-1, 65th) to restart the game. Unfortunately for the visitors, Brassier, already warned in the 60th, received a second yellow nine minutes later (69th), enough to undermine his team. From then on, Mbappé and his team managed calmly, scoring a final goal, on the road and in stoppage time, by Ramos (3-1, 90th + 2). Brest will have shown self-sacrifice, even if it could have hoped for a little better. PSG will play in the quarter-finals.
