Olympique Lyonnais won against Lille this Wednesday (2-1), in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France. Rayan Cherki was decisive.

Winner of Olympique de Marseille on February 4 in the league (1-0), Olympique Lyonnais was impatiently awaiting the match between them this Wednesday against Lille, in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France. Facing the Mastiffs, Pierre Sage’s men hoped to measure themselves against a team from the Top 4 of Ligue 1. In front of their audience, Rayan Cherki and his team did not disappoint and validated their ticket for the quarters (2-1) .

In a balanced match, things started timidly. At least from the point of view of the goals which took a long time to come. During the first act, it was rather Lille who took the game a little more into their own hands, with 55% ball possession. But the opportunities were more numerous on the Lyon side, and it was finally the winter recruit Gift Organ, who set fire for the first time in the bays of Groupama Stadium by opening the scoring a few minutes before the break (1-0, 40th ).

Cherki passes and scores

Back from the locker room, the Lyonnais hit the nail on the head. Decisive passer on the opening score, Rayan Cherki this time took advantage of a huge mix-up by the northern defense to double the lead (2-0, 47th). But the joy did not last long for the Gones who saw Alexsandro reduce the gap almost immediately (2-1, 53rd). A warning which, however, did not bring down OL.

At the end of a particularly tight second act, it was President Textor’s men who raised their arms to the sky at the final whistle. This victory will especially do good for the morale of Alexandre Lacazette and his team, they who are therefore qualified for the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France and who are only three games away from a ticket to Europe . Quite possibly their one and only chance to get one this season.
