During an interview, Mathieu Valbuena gave his response to a debate on social networks comparing him to Dimitri Payet.
The relationship between modern football and social media often gives rise to fierce debates between supporters of different clubs or admirers of different players. In addition to the endless debate to determine who Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo is better, comparisons between players unleash the passions of their fans who are ready to do anything to defend them.
Valbuena or Payet?
Recently it is a question regarding Dimitri Payet And Matthew Valbuena which divided most of the supporters of theOlympic Marseille, the aim being to determine which of these two players – who played together for a season at OM – had the most impact on the history of the Marseille club. Because while Payet stands out for his impressive statistics and spectacular style of play, Valbuena left Marseille with six trophies in his pocket and was a major player in most of them.
The 39-year-old, who currently plays for Apollon Limassol, was himself questioned on this subject during a long interview with Massilia Zone on Youtube. While the relationship between the two playmakers was not very warm, he did not mince his words while recognizing the immense talent of the Reunionese. “To me, this question shouldn’t even exist. But the ‘footix’ will answer Dimitri. He (Payet) has a lot of talent and it’s nice to play with him. Like I said he’s not the best friend I’ve had in a locker roomhe explained. I really like these players but Dimitri’s problem is that he lacked a bit of consistency. (…) The real ones will recognize that, especially by winning a lot of things at OM… But I think that, football-wise, really, and in terms of talent, I think that Dimitri can be superior to me. But I think mentally he can’t reach me.”
