OM coach Gennaro Gattuso and his family are said to be victims of pressure from members of the Calabrian mafia.
No, it is not the Marseille “environment” which worries Gennaro Gattuso and those close to him today. The OM coach has enough to do with the Ndrangheta, a mafia organization which is rampant in the south of Italy, in the Calabria region.
The Italian media Il Fatto Quotidiano reported this weekend a dark affair of blackmail and extortion suffered by the family of the former emblematic midfielder of AC Milan. The latter’s sister, Ida Gattuso, would have notably deplored the arson attacks on two of her vehicles, in April and December 2023. Attempts at intimidation attributed to two individuals well known to the transalpine police services.
80,000 euros claimed
Aldo Abbruzzese and Mustapha Hamil, both linked to the ‘Ndrangheta and already on file for aggravated extortion in a bribery case, were recently arrested by the Italian authorities, suspected of having put pressure on the technician’s father 46 year old Francesco Gattuso.
To spare the latter from “future problems”, the two men in question allegedly tried to extract the sum of 80,000 euros from him. Gennaro Gattuso himself would have put his hand in his pocket to repel the threat, sending his trusted man, Salvatore Pipieri, to deal with the criminals and give them at least 3,000 euros.
