Olympique de Marseille would be in favor of participating in the next European Super League.

Officially, and like all other major French clubs, OM is opposed to the creation of the European Super League. But, unofficially, the situation is different. The Phocaeans would welcome the launch of this event.

Laporta spills the beans for OM

The information in question was disclosed this Friday by Joan Laporta, the president of Barça. Speaking at the RAC 1 microphone, he cited the Marseille club among those who are secretly campaigning for the launch of this new European competition.

“The Super League could exist from the coming season, or in 2025-26. Besides Barça and Madrid, there are the Italians: Inter, Milan, Naples and Roma. There are also French teams like Olympique de Marseille, and the three Portuguese teams, Sporting, Benfica and Porto, who would like to come. There are also the Dutch teams (Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV) and the Belgian teams Bruges and Anderlecht. It would be better to have a competition with 16 teams,” he said.

What does Pablo Longoria think of these statements? About a month ago, the Olympian president proclaimed that a “closed league is not football”. However, we can imagine that he will easily change his mind in the future. Especially considering the money coming in that participation in the Super League would ensure for Marseille.
