Last qualified for the quarter-finals of the Asian Cup, Iran got the better of Syria this Wednesday evening in Qatar, at the end of a contested match made indecisive by the expulsion of Iranian star Taremi.
First scorer of the game, from the penalty spot (34th), the latter saw red in added time (90th+1), leaving his team numerically inferior for extra time while the Syrians had equalized through Khribin in the second half (64th) .
An incident which did not prevent Iran from winning its ticket for the rest of the competition on penalties (1-1, 5 tab to 3). With an upcoming duel against Japan, which for its part eliminated Bahrain today (1-3) thanks to achievements from Doan (31st), Kubo (49th) and Ueda (72nd).
