After the elimination of Senegal in the round of 16 of the CAN, Aliou Cissé should leave his position as coach.

Aliou Cissé will perhaps no longer coach his Senegal national team. At the end of nine years of experience, the highly respected technician will give up his apron. But without us knowing if it was his decision or if it was his federation which pushed him out.

Cissé leaves at the first failure

The information was communicated this Wednesday by Sané Malang, a Senegalese journalist. He is adamant that Cissé will not continue his mission. While he is still the reigning African champion, he will therefore abandon the post a few days after the Lions of Teranga’s exit from the African Cup.

The Senegalese were eliminated in the round of 16 (by Cote d’Ivoire on penalties) and this is the worst result under the leadership of Cissé. In addition to the title of African champion gleaned in 2022, he also led this selection to the final of the 2019 edition in Egypt.

The Senegalese federation will quickly have to find a replacement. Important deadlines are coming, such as the World Cup qualifiers starting next June.
