A scammer in Thailand tried to pose as Xabi Alonso to scam Liverpool fans.
Last Friday, Jürgen Klopp announced, in a press release published on Liverpool’s X account, his departure next June, at the end of the current season. To replace the German technician, the huge favorite is called Xabi Alonso according to the English bookmakers.
“I’m Xabi Alonso, I’ll be in charge of Liverpool next season, but I’m running out of money for my flights to Liverpool”, could we read in a message that went viral on Instagram, sent from a fake account claiming to be the current coach of Bayer Leverkusen. He is asking for donations of 300 baht (around 8 euros) to help him pay for his plane ticket to England, via an electronic payment service. In Thailand, police issued a statement on Facebook warning supporters of Reds against this identity thief. “Liverpool fans need to calm down. Xabi is not the manager yet, but there is already a scammer online”can we read in this message.
Xabi Alonso wore the colors of Liverpool for five seasons, between 2004 and 2009. Currently coach of Bayer Leverkusen, he has not lost a single match with this team since the start of the season. “It would be a dream to manage Liverpool one day, the club means a lot to me but first I have to prepare and prove myself,” he confided to talkSPORT in 2018.
