A year and then gone. Landing in Marseille in January 2022, Vitinha is indeed very close to the exit. Recruited for 27 million euros – plus five million euros in bonuses – the Portuguese striker is preparing to join Genoa. According to transfer specialist Gianluca Di Marzio, the two clubs have reached an agreement on the basis of a loan with a purchase option of 25 million euros.
Certain details would remain to be resolved, undoubtedly concerning the conditions requiring the exercise of the option. However, Olympique de Marseille would get away with it if they managed to resell the former Braga player at such a price considering his year spent under the Olympian colors. The agreement between the two clubs would also concern attacking midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi, loaned by OM to Genoa last summer, and who should be sold permanently to the Italian club for 7 million euros.
Present at a press conference this Monday on the occasion of the presentation of Quentin Merlin, Pablo Longoria noted the end of Vitinha’s adventure in Marseille. “It’s difficult to win at Olympique de Marseille when you’re a striker,” he confided, adding: “It’s true that we are talking with Genoa, that there are ongoing conversations, there are other clubs that are interested. We, as a club, are not interested in a dry loan. We are not interested in a loan. It’s true that in the conversations with Genoa, there are many other situations to be resolved between Genoa and us, and that could make it an interesting situation for us. That’s why we opened the door to all conversations with Genoa.”
