At PSG, recognition of the club’s former emblematic players does not exist. Here is the bitter observation drawn up by Luis Fernandez.
Decorated with the Legion of Honor in July 2022, Luis Fernandez will receive his decoration on February 22 at the Paris City Hall. However, the former Paris Saint-Germain coach would have liked to organize this event at the Parc des Princes.
Unfortunately, this will not be possible. “I tried everything to organize this at the Parc des Princes. I was offered a lounge for 20 or 30 people, without access to the stand. My guests would therefore not have been able to attend the match. I’m not going to leave them on the sidewalk. And then, I’m going to invite between 150 and 200 people: former members of the French team, former PSG players, my friends, my family… PSG had no solution. Everything was complicated”confided the former French international during an interview given to Parisian.
Luis Fernandez deplores that in the club of his heart, the recognition of alumni is non-existent. “I already realized it on the evening of PSG-Milan. I wanted to enter the square to show it to an Italian friend and I was refused access (…) The Parc des Princes was the ideal place. This is where my story began with PSG and the French team. I imagined a platform to thank the public… But it seems that you shouldn’t touch the lawn… I waited several months and I stopped insisting. If they really wanted to, they would have done it. When they want to do things well, they do them very well, they know how to put in the resources. They offered to give me a legends trophy. I told them OK, but the evening of PSG-OM! I feel like I’m causing them a problem. But I don’t want to cause anyone a problem. I just want to do things right. The City of Paris has offered, we will do that there, it will be good”consoles the native of Tarifa (Spain), who will receive his distinction from the hands of Michel Platini.
