Alexandre Song criticizes the influence of elders on the selection of Cameroon.

Cameroon was eliminated in the round of 16 of CAN 2023, by Nigeria (0-2). This elimination was a hard blow for the Indomitable Lions.

The former Cameroonian international, Alexandre Song, blamed the “elders” of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT), chaired by Samuel Eto’o, to explain this elimination.

“I have nothing against Ondoa but it is a very bad message that Cameroon is sending regarding its management,” said Song. When we see Onana on the bench and Ondoa starting even if he also has qualities, it’s something that cannot be imagined and which has never existed. »

“It’s the turn of these newcomers to shine”

The former Barça and Arsenal player believes that the Cameroonian selection was the victim of interference from the former, who imposed the tenure of Fabrice Ondoa, to the detriment of André Onana, the starting goalkeeper of Manchester United.

“We should also allow this generation of Lions to express themselves freely and for the elders to understand that it is the turn of these new ones to shine,” he explained for CRTV Sports. They deserve their space because in our time, we did not allow this interference from the elders and even in the time of those who run football today, they did not allow that. »
