Mikel Arteta could be the next manager to announce his imminent departure, as a report claims he is considering leaving Arsenal this summer.
After Jurgen Klopp announced he would leave Liverpool at the end of the season and Xavi confirmed he would step down as FC Barcelona coach, Arteta is the third big name to face an exit surprise this summer. According to Sport, the Spaniard has told those close to him that he plans to end his career at Arsenal at the end of the 2023-24 season.
Adios Arteta
While Xavi has just confirmed his departure on Saturday, the report states that no one at Barcelona has contacted Arteta about taking charge of the team at the Camp Nou. However, president Joan Laporta is said to be an admirer of the former Barcelona, Arsenal and Everton midfielder and believes he would be a great fit for the club.
Arteta joined Arsenal as head coach in December 2019 and has turned the north London side into Premier League title contenders, having topped the table until the end of last season, before to miss out on the title following Manchester City’s victory. His team is still in the race this season, but has fallen to third place, five points behind leaders Liverpool.
