Inter Milan have regained their leadership seat, temporarily abandoned to Juventus. The Nerazzurri won on Sunday against Fiorentina (0-1, 22nd day of Serie A).
Ten months ago, Fiorentina won on Inter Milan (0-1). Since the Violets were beaten twice by the Nerazzurri and this Sunday evening, they suffered a third setback in a row against Simone Inzaghi’s men (0-1, 22nd day of Serie A). The locals sold their skin dearly, but Milan enforced their rank, thanks in particular to the inevitable Lautaro Martinez. This success allows Inter to regain the leadership throne, one point ahead of Juventus (2nd).
The match was therefore launched after a quarter of an hour of play with the goal of Lautaro Martinez receiving a pass from Kristjan Asllani (0-1, 14th). Opposite, Fiorentina did much more than just make up the numbers, not hesitating to move forward to create their luck. With a better percentage of ball possession, Jonathan Ikoné’s partners, however, did not find the fault before returning to the locker room.
Sommer redeems himself
And they won’t find her in the second act either. However, they had the opportunity to equalize following the dangerous exit of Yann Sommer, guilty of a punch in the face of Mbala Nzola during an aerial duel (75th). Helped by VAR, the referee therefore indicated the penalty spot. But Nicolas Gonzalez failed against the Milan goalkeeper who dived on the right side (76th). The Florentine opportunity had passed and Inter’s victory was confirmed a full quarter of an hour later.
In the standings, Benjamin Pavard, Marcus Thuram and theirs therefore find themselves in the lead with one point ahead (and one game less) over Juve. As for Fiorentina, they have a third match in a row without a victory in the league and remain stuck in fifth place. A delicate situation since it is only two points ahead of… ninth in the ranking!
