Injuries have been a major problem for FC Barcelona throughout the season.
Following the confirmation of Sergi Roberto’s muscle injury, announced on Friday evening, FC Barcelona now has seven players unavailable for Saturday evening’s match against Villarreal. The 31-year-old joins Marc-André Ter Stegen, Gavi, Marcos Alonso, Raphinha, Inigo Martinez and Alejandro Balde in the injured ranks.
Too many injuries
Injuries have been a major problem for FC Barcelona throughout the season. MD says that on average, Xavi has been without four players per game since the start of the campaign. Even more striking, this figure increases to six if we only take into account the Catalan club’s last 12 matches.
There is only one time this season where FC Barcelona have not had an injury problem before a competitive match, and that was in the opening match against Getafe in August. Even on this occasion, Martinez was unavailable due to a foot injury, but he had not yet been registered after signing from Athletic Club, so that fact is taken into account.
Recent times have been difficult for FC Barcelona, which has been reflected in their results and performances. There is, however, a glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel, as Barcelona hope to get Ter Stegen, Raphinha and Martinez back in the near future. On the other hand, they will be without Gavi and Balde (if he has surgery) until the end of the season.
