Stade Rennais has published a laconic press release to formalize the departure of Nemanja Matic to Lyon.

The timing is strange, but there it is. The day after the meeting between the two clubs, and the small slap inflicted by Stade Rennais on Olympique Lyonnais (3-2 victory at Groupama Stadium after leading 3-0 at half-time), the transfer of Nemanja Matic was made official this Saturday morning.

Unsurprisingly, the tone is not the same in the two camps. OL is delighted to welcome “such a charismatic and experienced player”, A “left-handed defensive midfielder, 1.94m tall, with great physical and technical qualities” which is committed until 2026, for the sum of 2.6 million euros.

Rennes loses its master painting

On the Rennes side, on the other hand, it is the bare minimum. “Stade Rennais FC and Olympique Lyonnais have reached an agreement for the transfer of midfielder Nemanja Matić who was contracted with SRFC until 2025”simply announces the Breton club, without the slightest word of thanks.

It is clear that Rennes is disappointed by the sudden departure of the former Chelsea player, as the Rouge et Noir were delighted last summer to have signed an item of such caliber. The people of Rennes had compared Matic to a work of art, a painting which was taken down this Saturday afternoon from a Rennes museum, in an amusing and meaningful communication.
