Victorious over Zambia in its last group match, Morocco allowed Ivory Coast to continue its journey in the CAN.
The miracle happened for Ivory Coast. Humiliated by Equatorial Guinea two years ago, the Elephants were on the edge of the precipice. And here they are back in the game thanks to a success for Morocco. By defeating Zambia, the Atlas Lions have indeed allowed the hosts to extend their run in this continental event.
Ziyech delivers two countries
It was Hakim Ziyech who scored the only goal of the game, to the great relief of all the spectators present. At 37e minute of play, the captain of the Moroccans, in the absence of Romain Saiss, hit the target with a close range following a cross from Achraf Hakimi.
A goal which was enough for Regragui’s men to finish first in their group, and which therefore made the Ivorians happy. The latter will have to face Senegal in the round of 16, while Morocco will have to challenge South Africa.
In the other group match, DR Congo secured a draw against Tanzania. By avoiding defeat, the Leopards secured second place in the group. In the next round, they will face Egypt.
