Unable to win any of its three matches, Tunisia left the CAN at the stage of the 1st round.
For the first time in eleven years, Tunisia fails to cross the group stage in the African Cup of Nations. The Carthage Eagles suffered the same fate as Algeria, signing a third match in a row without a victory this Wednesday.
Tunisia believed in it (briefly)
The Tunisians had to share the points with South Africa (0-0). It was also the first goalless score of the competition. A result which suited the affairs of their opponents, but not theirs. With only two points collected, they find themselves last in their group. And therefore prematurely eliminated from the event.
The start of the match however saw Laidouni and his teammates show some good things. Even without Youssef Msakni, on the bench at kick-off, they were enterprising. But, it was only a flash in the pan and in the end there were very few clear chances on the goals kept by Williams.
South Africa came close to victory
In the second half, and despite the incorporation of Sliti, Tunisia was hardly able to raise its level of play. It even went from correctional, with opportunities from Mokoena and Tau (77e and 79e) within two minutes. And at 81e, it was Makcopa who came to alert Ben Said. In front of his bench, Jalal El Kadri remained powerless in the face of the lethargy proposed by his squad.
Note that with this result, there is still only one success for the North African selections in this CAN. Knowing that they have played seven matches, this is a more than alarming result. Only Morocco and Egypt remain to save honor.
