Victim of a muscle injury, Mohamed Salah is sent straight to Liverpool for treatment, in the hope of returning to Ivory Coast if Egypt qualifies for the semi-finals of the African Cup of Nations .

After two 2-2 draws against Mozambique then Ghana, Egypt trembles before challenging Cape Verde in their third group match of the African Cup of Nations. The Pharaohs will have to obtain at least a point to reach the round of 16 of the competition without their star player, Mohamed Salah.

The double African Ballon d’Or injured a hamstring muscle on Thursday, leaving the field even before half-time against the Ghanaians. He is not the victim of a strain as announced, but very probably of a small tear, since the Egyptian federation announced that its captain was returning to England to receive the appropriate treatment (which is nevertheless a usual treatment, the injury being one of the most common among footballers).

Ready for Arsenal-Liverpool?

Salah will only return to Ivory Coast if the Egyptian team qualifies for the CAN semi-finals (the quarter-finals are scheduled in two weeks). The Liverpool club probably requested the return of its offensive crack, in order to plan its physical recovery. The 31-year-old left-hander could thus resume directly with the current Premier League leader for the clash against Arsenal on February 4.
