Bayern Munich suffered a historic defeat this Sunday afternoon against Werder Bremen (0-1). The Bavarians had not lost against the Hanseatic team for more than 15 years and 32 matches in all competitions. Werder’s last victory took place on September 20, 2008. It is also the first time in 4 years that Bayern did not score at home in the Bundesliga.
Without Gnabry (injured), Mazraoui (African Cup of Nations) and Kim Min-Jae (Asian Cup of Nations), the reigning German champion then conceded a rather logical opening score with an incredible strike, in a tight angle, signed Mitchell Weiser (0-1, 59th). Leroy Sané and Kingsley Coman did not weigh on Werder’s defense, having not scored since October in the league. Harry Kane (73rd) and Mathys Tel (87th, 90+5th) pushed to equalize at the end of the match, but Bayern Munich ultimately had to concede their second defeat of the season. A bunch of missed chances that left Bremen with their first away win.
Thomas Tuchel accuses his players
After the heavy 5-1 defeat against Frankfurt at the beginning of December, this is another major setback for the Bavarians. Lagging behind in the championship, Thomas Tuchel’s team is experiencing a real accounting crisis. They are now 7 points behind Bayer Leverkusen, still undefeated and in full swing. At the microphone of DAZNthe Bayern coach was not kind: “We didn’t deserve the victory over the 90 minutes. There was too little desire, too little madness in our game for 60, 70 minutes. We lacked presence in the duels”. Before attacking his players more generally: “I no longer want to say that we train well, no one believes it anymore. We have to question the players. They played without desire and the defeat is deserved”.
Start of crisis at Bayern? The German coach seems to have lost confidence in his players. The former PSG coach, however, does not draw a line under the title: “It’s still very early. We haven’t even finished the first half of the season as we still have to play Union Berlin. We don’t need to think and talk about the title yet. We lost three points today and we have the opportunity to do better on Wednesday”. We will therefore have to be much more realistic in our next meetings if the Bavarians do not already want to say goodbye to the final coronation in the championship.
