Cameroon, pessimism reigns

To hope to qualify for the round of 16, Cameroon, facing Gambia on Tuesday (6 p.m.), will probably have to aim for a place among the four best thirds.

Friday evening, Senegal beat Cameroon (3-1) in the African Cup, validating its ticket for the round of 16 of the continental competition. Held in check by Guinea (1-1) after the first match, the Indomitable Lions now find themselves in a very delicate position.

Aurelien Chedjou does not hide his pessimism. “Cameroon is disappointing. They didn’t take any initiatives. Cameroon showed very little to my liking. Senegal was enterprising and showed better things. It’s very poor in terms of game content to hope to do anything. Even if in the end we could come back to 2-2 on this header from KĂ©vin Nkoudou. It would have been a deception for me. Cameroon offered very little this evening (…) There is a real difference today between Senegal and Cameroon. “It’s very hard to see Cameroon like this. I don’t have the words. I am sure that those on the ground want to do very well. But you have to ask yourself the right questions: why isn’t it working? Did they give it their all? Is the message getting through? Have we prepared well? The problem is so deep. I am sure that on the pitch, the players are giving the best of themselves. They give what they can. There is really a gulf between Senegal and Cameroon”, deplores the former Lille player. Tuesday, the Indomitable Lions will face Gambia at 6 p.m. for the last group match.
