FC Barcelona is about to finalize its 2024 plan to keep Joao Felix.
Atlético de Madrid have finally signed a season-long contract with FC Barcelona in the final hours of the summer transfer window. The deal ended weeks of speculation, with Felix publicly pushing for a transfer, due to his career goal of playing for Barcelona, and Atletico eventually relenting.
The Rojiblancos have kept their options open for Felix, with a contract extension until 2029, and they are ready to sell him to FC Barcelona for 80 million euros. With FC Barcelona not willing to pay this amount and Felix losing momentum, he could return to Madrid in 2024.
The Portugal international has struggled to find empathy, with his stance on his Atlético departure leaving a bitter taste, and his apparent indifference to his poor performances has only made the problem worse. Former Real Madrid player Guti has given his thoughts on Felix’s struggles, and the 47-year-old believes most of the problems are self-inflicted as Felix is at a crossroads in his career.
“Joao is somewhat responsible for his situation. He’s a player who has ups and downs and his mentality doesn’t help him.”, according to an interview with El Chiringuito. “ Sometimes he is angry at the world and thinks it is responsible for everything that happens to him, when that is not the case. That has to change, because he’s a great player.”
