Former Barcelona and Sevilla FC icon Dani Alves is set to change his testimony for the fourth time

Alves will go on trial on February 5 for alleged rape, following an incident at a Barcelona nightclub on December 30, 2022. He was arrested just over three weeks later, after the Brazilian turned himself in to the police.

Alves has spent the past 12 months in custody, considered a flight risk ahead of trial. During this period, Alves gave different versions of the events, ranging from the fact that he had never seen the victim before to that the sex was consensual.

Relevo reports today that Alves will testify that he was too drunk to know what he was doing at the time – the implication would be that he would open the door to a guilty conviction, and their legal strategy would be to request a reduction of the sentence. Currently, the prosecution is asking for 9 years in prison, while the victim is asking for 12 years in prison and 150,000 euros in damages.
