Stade Rennais would be ready to pull out all the stops to strengthen themselves this winter.
It is with a taste of revenge that Stade Rennais approaches this return phase. The Breton club, which has just scored an encouraging victory against Nice (2-0), is determined to turn things around after a very disappointing first part of the season at Ligue 1 level.
With this in mind, the winter transfer window looks like a turning point in reshaping a workforce deemed to be failing in certain lines. In midfield, Julien Stéphan wanted to keep Nemanja Matic, but the Serbian international packed his bags to suddenly leave Brittany, against the agreement of his club. And to replace the former AS Roma player, a name would be unanimous among the club’s senior management: Pierre Lees-Melou.

Considered one of the most efficient and reliable midfielders this season in Ligue 1, Pierre Lees-Melou has established himself as the strong link in a sensational Brest team. And if his current club is much better ranked than Stade Rennais, the proposal from the Ile-et-Vilaine club could make him think. According to Jean-Michel Larqué, the Rennes leaders would have in fact transmitted a “ amazing offer » in the Breton environment, accompanied by a salary which would be 4 times higher than that which he receives.
Enough to finalize the operation? Not necessarily. Because Stade Brestois, ambitious after its fantastic first part of the season, does not see it that way. Lees-Melou is under contract with the Finistère club until June 2027. To be continued…
