Glen Johnson has urged Liverpool to “forget what the statistics and calculators say” and “pull out” to sign PSG superstar Kylian Mbappé.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are said to be the “most credible and dangerous threat” to Paris Saint-Germain’s efforts to retain the 2018 World Cup winner, despite intense interest from Real Madrid. The German manager is believed to remain a big admirer of Mbappé, and former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson believes a deal could be agreed for around €80 million.

Liverpool must make big concessions

In an interview with Betfred, Johnson explained: “I completely understand that Kylian wants to join Liverpool, but are they going to break the bank to get him? This goes against their transfer policy. Is it worth breaking the bank for him? Absolutely, but it all depends on whether Liverpool are willing to do it because everything they do is so calculated and structured, but for this one to cross the line you have to forget what the stats and the calculator say. »

“You have to have your pockets full. I completely understand that the player wants to leave and if Liverpool want to do it, I’m sure every fan in the country will want to see him in the Premier League. If Liverpool want to save money on a potential £150 million transfer fee, I’m sure Mbappé’s agents will ask for half that sum for themselves and the player, so the deal will be astronomical, even in the case of a free transfer. Either way, it will be expensive. »

Liverpool must indeed put their hand in their pocket, because Real Madrid would be ready to offer the Frenchman a signing bonus of 130 million euros to attract him to Spain. Furthermore, PSG would also prepare a staggering offer of more than “100 million per season” to convince him to stay at the Parc des Princes.

Mbappé is a generational talent and it’s no surprise that Liverpool and Real Madrid are willing to go above and beyond to sign him. However, it is uncertain whether the striker will choose to leave Paris, as he recently admitted he has a transfer ‘agreement’ with the Ligue 1 champions that will ‘protect all parties’. He will return to competition against US Orléans on Saturday in the Coupe de France.
