After the elimination of OL women in the quarter-finals of the Champions League (by Chelsea, who were then eliminated by Barça in the semi-finals), then the exit of Hervé Renard’s French team in the quarter-finals of the 2023 World Cup (by Australia on penalties), French football had very little chance of doing well during the awards of The Best Fifa Football Awards, Monday evening in London.
Kadidiatou Diani, the star striker of Les Bleues with Eugénie Le Sommer, came 10th in the vote for The Best Fifa Player of the Year, far from Aitana Bonmati, logically rewarded by being the best player of Barça European champion and of world champion Spain. Diani was able to count on the vote of Wendie Renard, invited to vote as national captain. The central defender placed her in front of Bonmati and Lindsey Horan, another Fenottes teammate.
The French coach Hervé Renard placed Kadi Diani in third position behind Jennifer Hermoso (Seleccion executive who was propelled to the top of the bill by being kissed by Luis Rubiales) and the young Colombian Linda Caicedo, while Nathalie Iannetta, in the jury of journalists also voted for Hermoso, ahead of Diani and another Spanish international, Salma Paralluelo.
Aitana Bonmatí is #TheBest FIFA Women’s Player 2023! 🤩
