A duel in which the Merengues were much superior in all areas of the game, and which further weakened FC Barcelona where we could, before this match, already smell a little scent of crisis.
And if there is a man who has been taking a lot for a while, and it has become even more pronounced in recent hours, it’s Xavi. A time protected by criticism, his status as a legend of the club helping, the former Barcelona midfielder is now the first man to be singled out when it comes to pointing out the ills of this Barça. After yesterday’s meeting, many still called for his resignation or dismissal. On social networks in particular, where the Barcelona fanbase believes that he has lost his team and that he is not the man for the job.
Laporta does not tremble
But as various Spanish media indicate, such as Sport, the management of FC Barcelona has full confidence in Xavi. There will therefore be no future dismissals, and the coach has the confidence of the staff, and above all, of its president Joan Laporta. If there were to be a dismissal, it would not be before the end of the season, when the club will take stock of the situation.
The management is not a fan of drastic changes during the season and continues to believe that Xavi is the ideal man to carry out the current project. Information also confirmed by Deco, the club’s sporting director, on Movistar after the meeting: “this question (on Xavi’s dismissal, Editor’s note) makes no sense. He still has the confidence of the president and the sports management, this defeat changes nothing”. Xavi can therefore, for the moment, sleep soundly.
