Liverpool’s excellent Dutch defender, Virgil Van Dijk, expressed his admiration for a French international.
Olivier Giroud may not be the classiest player on the pitch, but he is one of those that opposing defenders fear the most. And if there are any who had any doubt about this, then they just need to take a look at Virgil Van Dijk’s latest interview.
Van Dijk prefers Giroud to Mbappé
In an interview with France Football, the Dutch rock made it clear that the French international is the most formidable player he has had to face. However, he came across references in the field such as Mohamed Salah, Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappé.
“I think I’m going to stick with Olivier Giroud, he thundered. Each time we have the impression of holding him, of marking him well, but he always manages to score in one way or another with his head, his foot, his knee. He often scored against me. Afterwards, I must not forget Sergio Aguero, who was very strong, Haaland obviously, Gabriel Jesus too. All of them make your matches very difficult.”
Giroud is not the only Frenchman who seduces Van Dijk. The Batavian also says he is impressed by his teammate at the club, Ibrahima Konaté. “He’s already a very good player,” he said about him. He is still learning, but he is progressing quickly. And the way he plays already at his age is truly remarkable. It’s a real pleasure to be able to work with him, to be around him every day, to see him improve a little more every day. I’m really happy with everything that’s happening to him. I really think he can become one of the best defenders in the world.”
