The PSG and Kylian Mbappé Saga: A Step Towards Reconciliation?
After several weeks of uncertainty, can Paris Saint-Germain supporters hope for a reconciliation between the club and Kylian Mbappé? PSG has decided to reintegrate their star striker into the squad, a sign of significant relaxation between the two parties.
This decision comes on the heels of a 0-0 draw between PSG and Lorient. “Following very constructive and positive discussions between Paris Saint-Germain and Kylian Mbappé before the PSG-Lorient match on Saturday, August 12th, the player has been reintegrated into the first-team training this morning,” PSG announced in a statement released on Sunday.
Kylian Mbappé’s contract, a bone of contention between PSG and the player
Until now, the club and the player seemed to have completely entrenched positions, with Kylian Mbappé wanting to see out his contract, which ends in 2024, allowing him to leave for free. PSG, on the other hand, hopes to sell the striker before this deadline.
The conflict had reached its peak with the French international’s exclusion, deprived at the end of July from the tour to Japan and South Korea, as well as the reception of Lorient in the league. However, a rapprochement had been hinted at on Saturday and there were signs of a lull. Kylian Mbappé had welcomed Ousmane Dembélé’s arrival in Paris, with whom he was a world champion in 2018 under the French national team jersey.
“Welcome home my brother, so happy to see you here, the adventure begins,” he wrote on Instagram. The two players then appeared together and smiling in the stands of Parc des Princes to watch the PSG-Lorient match.
