During the first months of the season, Manuel Ugarte had everyone in agreement. Combative, the Uruguayan midfielder scored a lot of balls and was radiant in the Parisian midfielder who was at the top. However, for several weeks, the former Sporting Portugal player has been sidelined by Luis Enrique. Less visible during his last outings, the 22-year-old pays for the excellent form of Vitinha and Warren Zaire-Emery while Kang-In Lee was placed back in midfield. Worse, the former Barça coach stood out by almost making fun of Manuel Ugarte and his placement on the bench.

This schoolboy joke having gone badly, the former midfielder backpedaled this Saturday at a press conference on the eve of the crucial meeting on the lawn of Lens: “This is all normal. It’s not easy to change clubs, for a young player, but also a veteran. Every adaptation is different and having ups and downs in a season is normal. I see it clearly. He has a strong personality. I talk with them, sometimes it’s superficial, sometimes deeper. I can’t speak with them every week in depth but no player gives me any concerns. Everyone has to adapt. This is the lot of big clubs. It’s a process. It has to do with a very particular moment, what’s going on in your life etc. But I see them all very well, even the young ones, they adapt. For the French, it’s a little easier but that’s normal, it’s a process of adaptation.»
