Jose Mourinho’s job is reportedly on the line as he has just 30 days to turn around the struggling Giallorossi.

The Portuguese coach may be the fans’ favorite, but the board of directors is growing impatient with the lack of results on the pitch. Although Mourinho led the team to the UEFA Europa Conference League title to end a 14-year drought in his first season and another European final in the next, two consecutive sixth-place finishes in Serie A the prevented them from participating in the Champions League. The Romans were hoping to be among Europe’s elite in 2024-25, but their first five months in the league have been disastrous and they find themselves in eighth place in the table.

Mourinho appears to be walking on eggshells and Francesco Balzani says the boss has just a month to get the team back into contention for the top four places. His contract ends this summer and if results are not favorable he could be denied an extension. The club have contingency plans in place and it appears Daniele de Rossi is being considered as a temporary option. Raffaele Palladino and Vincenzo Montella are also seen as potential alternatives.

Mourinho was called to order twice in the space of a week during Roma’s matches against Atalanta and Lazio in Serie A and the Coppa Italia, respectively, for exaggerating his reactions to match officials. However, the supporters supported him and even deployed a tifo in the Olimpico which read: “Eyes intoxicated with red and yellow, a soul filled with romance… Jose Mourinho Romanista for life! »

Mourinho was upset by such heat and publicly admitted that he wanted to continue at Roma. “ I haven’t spoken to the owners, but I want to continue coaching Roma, the fans are unique,” did he declare. “ A separation would be difficult for me. And if a separation were to take place, it would not be my decision.”
