The bonuses paid to the African selections which will participate in CAN 2024, from January 13 to February 11, have never been so important.
D-1 before the kick-off of the African Cup of Nations. While Côte d’Ivoire will begin “its” competition against Guinea-Bissau on Saturday evening, in Abidjan, the twenty-four participants know what the amount of their bonuses will be in the event of victory. CAF actually communicated last week the allocations planned for this CAN 2024, and they will reach a record level!
There prize money of the competition increased by 40% compared to the previous edition, won by Senegal in 2021. Thus the next African champion will receive some 7 million dollars (€6.4 million), while the finalist will console themselves with a check for 4 million dollars (€3.6 million). A presence in the quarter-finals and semi-finals will be rewarded with €1.1 million and €2.2 million respectively.
The World Cup brings in a lot more
In all of history, such sums have never been at stake during an African Cup of Nations. Despite everything, winning this CAN 2024 will still bring in much less than having a good run at the World Cup. Crowned in 2022, Argentina left Qatar with €38.3 million in their pocket while France collected €27.3 million. Fourth in the tournament, Morocco came home with €24.6 million.
