Footage from 2019 has emerged in which former Liverpool star Sadio Mané claims his mother and uncle ‘wanted him to marry a 14-year-old girl’.
The Senegalese international got married. The 31-year-old striker married his 19-year-old partner, Aisha Tamba, in a ceremony in his country. The wedding reportedly took place on January 7 in Keur Massar, and reports claim that Aisha had “a long attraction to the footballer since his adolescence”. It was also said that Mané took care of paying Aisha’s bills when she was at school.
Comments from several years ago have resurfaced, in which Mané tells Orange Senegal that his family intended to set him up as a couple: “No, actually I wanted to get married but you know that marriage is a bit complicated. I would have liked to get married, but you know that with parents too, it’s something else, they are complicated. I remember one day when my mother and my uncle wanted me to marry (as is done in the villages) a 14 year old girl. (Idy, was it 14? I think she will be 15 this year, but I refused. But don’t worry, if I find my soul mate, I’ll get married right away.)
The Lion of Teranga and his new wife posted photos of their wedding on social networks. Aisha, the daughter of an architect, can be seen holding her husband’s hand in front of a display of roses with the words “Mrs Mané” printed on the wall. The winger, who is currently preparing for the start of the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, is currently playing at club level alongside five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo at Pro League club Al-Nassr Saudi.
