Stade Rennais would have ticked the name of a player considered to be a reference in Ligue 1 this season.

This winter transfer window looks like a turning point in the Stade Rennais season. After a very disappointing first leg, the Breton club intends to raise the bar to achieve its objectives, namely a qualifying place for a European Cup. Rennes, engaged on the European scene, must also face an overloaded schedule.

Shortly after taking office, Julien Stéphan, who succeeded Bruno Genesio on the Rennes bench, repeated his desire to keep Nemanja Matic. Like striker Arnaud Kalimuendo, the experienced Serbian midfielder is expected to leave. At the age of 35, Matic failed to win in Rennes. And to replace him, a name would be unanimous within the club.

Mercato: an attractive name for Rennes

According to information from L’Équipe, Rennes would like to secure the services of Pierre Lees-Melou. Aged 30, the latter is considered one of the most consistent midfielders in the French championship. But negotiations promise to be difficult with Stade Brestois, which does not intend to give up its best player after a sensational first part of the season.
