Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has revealed he spends most of his time as a taxi driver for his children.
De Bruyne spent almost five months on the sidelines after tearing his hamstring on the opening day of the Premier League, but he made a triumphant return with an assist in City’s 5-0 win over Huddersfield in the FA Cup. After the match, he revealed what he spent most of his free time doing. “ To be honest, when you have three children between three and seven, it’s not much, I’m basically a taxi driver. I liked that,” De Bruyne told reporters. “I think they appreciated that Dad could watch the games. Now it will be more difficult for the woman and everyone else to complete the program. »
De Bruyne admitted the downtime had done him good mentally, having spent so much time competing at the highest level twice a week. “It’s not like I needed a break, but I took it, to turn a disadvantage into an advantage. When I reflect on my career, I have been playing for the last ten years without interruption and with a short break, maybe it was a good thing for me to reset a bit and take care of myself, which is not really possible during the year. I was hoping I could work hard and get back in shape and I feel like that’s what I’m doing, but obviously I need to improve. »
But he said he didn’t enjoy being away from his teammates. “ When you train with an injury, you are always alone,” added De Bruyne. “You might train with other physiotherapists or other people in the gym, but you’re not really with the team, so you’re often working outside of those hours. So it’s nice to be with the team again and compete. »
