The world of football and former French international Bixente Lizarazu are mourning the death of Franz Beckenbauer.

The football world said goodbye to Franz Beckenbauer. One of football’s greatest legends died this Sunday. The double Ballon d’Or winner died at the age of 78.

The Kaiser, as he was nicknamed, left his mark on football history. He notably won the World Cup with Germany in 1974 as a player, then in 1990 as a coach. He also won three European Cups with Bayern Munich.

Tributes for the former libero have followed since the announcement of his death. Bixente Lizarazu, former player of Bayern Munich and Olympique de Marseille, paid tribute to the former coach of Rotten and Ciel et Blanc.

“You will remain one of the greatest legends of world football, wrote the 1998 world champion on Instagram. You are the legend of German football and @fcbayern. You are the classiest and most charismatic footballer I have had the privilege of knowing. You contributed to my arrival at @fcbayern, I will never forget you and I will be forever grateful. Thanks for everything Kaizer. Rest in peace Franz. 🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️ »

Beckenbauer was an essential figure in German football. The child from Salzburg was president of Bayern Munich from 1994 to 2009, and then honorary president. He was also vice-president of the German Football Association (DFB) between 1998 and 2010.
