Before going to Ivory Coast, the Algerian selection negotiated its last friendly match well.

Djamel Belmadi’s selection is ready for CAN 2023. Algeria has, in fact, produced the match it needed for its last friendly meeting. This Tuesday, in Togo, it logically defeated Burundi (4-0).

Algeria is ready

With what looked like their typical team, the Greens had no difficulty imposing the law. They won easily and this victory follows that gleaned against Togo last Friday in Lomé.

Against Burundi, it was the attackers who delighted, with two goals per half. Baghdad Bounedjah broke the deadlock from the 1ste minute, before Riyad Mahrez added the second just before the break (39e). At the end of the match, Islam Slimani (87th) and Mohamed Amine Amoura (94th) added to the score.

Note that Belmadi rotated after the break, which may explain the drop in pace. It is also about sparing the troops and giving playing time to the usual replacements in view of the rest of the games.

Algeria will begin its CAN journey next Monday against Angola. It will then challenge Burkina Faso and Mauritania. The objective is of course to go as far as possible and perhaps win the country’s third continental crown.
