Didier Deschamps once again came out of his usual reserve. Two days after expressing his sorrow following the death of Mario Zagallo, the French coach deplored the disappearance of Franz Beckenbauer this Monday.

The bad news continues in recent days for football lovers around the world. Two days after the announcement of the death of former Brazilian player and coach Mario Zagallo, the death of another football legend was made official this Monday, in this case that of Franz Beckenbauer. Already out of his usual silence to pay tribute to the first named, Didier Deschamps once again took up his pen to evoke his memories of the “Kaiser”.

It is with great sadness that I learned of the death of Franz Beckenbauer. His disappearance comes just a few days after that of Mario Zagallo. It was a huge honor for me to join them both in 2018 among those who won the World Cup as a player and then as coach. My pain, today, is equal to the happiness that was mine to be invited to the table of these two giants of international football. »

“An extremely respected personality”

And the current coach of the France team describes the man who died on Sunday at the age of 78: “ Franz Beckenbauer was first a world-class player, a talented and authoritarian defender with his almost always club, Bayern Munich, but also with the German selection with whom he collected trophies. He exuded a class, a confidence that many sought to be inspired by. The man nicknamed Kaizer took over the German selection in 1984, after an elimination in the first round, and he took it to the final of the 1986 World Cup and the title, four years later. »

Then Didier Deschamps sent his condolences to the family and loved ones of the German legend. “ Through everything he achieved but also what he exuded, Franz Beckenbauer was an extremely respected personality, who embodied the demands of the very highest level. I extend to his family, his loved ones and all those who, like me, admired him, all my support in this sad and painful moment. »
