Despite a very promising start at Barcelona, Joao Felix had a very disappointing loan spell with the Catalan club
The Portuguese’s performance has been very poor in recent months, which led to him being left out of the squad against Las Palmas. Ferran Torres replaced Felix for the match in Gran Canaria, and the Spanish striker took his chance. He was undoubtedly Barcelona’s best striker that day, and he scored the equalizer in the 2-1 win over Garcia Pimienta’s side.
After the match against Las Palmas, Sport reported that Torres had overtaken Felix in coach Xavi Hernandez’s plans. The latter should not start against Osasuna in the semi-final of the Spanish Super Cup on Thursday, Torres probably being preferred after his good performance in Gran Canaria.
It would appear that confidence in Felix is waning internally, although Barcelona are still expected to push for a new contract with Atleti this summer as they hope the 24-year-old will be a success. However, this seems unlikely at this point…
