Absent during the 2022 World Cup, Christopher Nkunku could make his return to Didier Deschamps’ list for Euro 2024. The new Chelsea player would offer “a different profile” to the Blues, according to Rio Mavuba.

It was one of the adventures which marked the preparation for the 2022 World Cup. Victim of a knee injury in training, following a clash with Eduardo Camavinga, Christopher Nkunku had to give up the big meeting, leaving his place to Randal Kolo Muani, death in the soul.

Since then, the player trained at PSG has only found the Blues very occasionally, with two small entries last June during the Euro 2024 qualifiers. But that could change, on two conditions: if Nkunku finally manages to be spared from injuries, and if he performs well enough with Chelsea to convince Didier Deschamps to include him in his list, in a competitive offensive sector.

A promising return and a relapse

Nkunku seemed on the right track in recent days, with his first four matches played in Chelsea colors, and even a goal against Wolverhampton (1-2). But the former Leipzig player suffered another physical problem, with a hip injury which deprived him of the match against Preston in the FA Cup.

So that’s where we are Nkunku, but Rio Mavuba wants to be optimistic, and can imagine the French striker providing services to the Blues during the Euro at the end of the season. “We saw during his return with Chelsea, he immediately had an impact on this team, observes the Téléfoot consultant. He has a different profile from his competitors in Blue, he is more technical, and he can be used by Didier Deschamps. »
