PSG’s interest in Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes is “genuine”, according to a knowledgeable journalist.

Bruno Guimaraes, one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, is a highly sought-after player, especially considering Newcastle’s disappointing campaign so far. Eddie Howe’s Magpies, decimated by injuries, languish in ninth place despite the colossal sums spent since the Saudi takeover, and the coach is under pressure.

Guimaraes, meanwhile, continues to impress. At the end of last year, he was rewarded with a new contract which allowed him to fend off the desires of Barcelona and Liverpool. Thanks to this new lease, the Brazilian would now have a release clause exceeding 116 million euros.

PSG will have to negotiate with Newcastle

His contract was rumored to contain a secret FC Barcelona clause that would allow him to join the Catalan giants for a much more affordable fee, but even if that turns out to be true, the La Liga club are currently too strapped for cash to continue the operation. Other clubs, on the other hand, have a lot of money to spend.

In recent days, Brazilian reports have claimed that PSG are starting to show serious interest in the 26-year-old. The French champion had the opportunity to observe Guimaraes up close during their Champions League match against Newcastle and apparently liked what he saw.

Today, journalist Joel Bland takes stock of the situation. He reported on X that PSG’s interest in the player is real, but there is no way Newcastle will let him leave in January. Guimaraes is considered too important to Howe’s team to lose him during the season.

As for the release clause, Bland cited other reports that claim it is only active in the summer. If she was active this month, the Magpies would have no say and Guimaraes could leave if PSG put the necessary money on the table. As things stand, PSG will have to negotiate with Newcastle, and their chances of success are slim. Furthermore, Guimaraes is said to be very attached to his current team.
