Before choosing Fabio Grosso to replace Laurent Blanc on the OL bench, John Textor had thought of Gennaro Gattuso.
Shortly before replacing Marcelino at OM, Gennaro Gattuso was mentioned on the OL side. In an interview with L’Equipe, the Italian explains why Lyon did not choose him. Fast forward a few months and Grosso is no longer there, and Gattuso is on the OM bench. The Italian coach provided clarification on this matter in the pages of L’Equipe.
“I only spoke to one person, John Textor. I don’t know, but honestly I’m happy with how things turned out. (…) Maybe some people think that I am a guy who creates problems, while in my career I have never argued with a player, on the contrary, I am someone who loves players”he says.
The former AC Milan star reveals why he didn’t hesitate to say yes to Marseille: “Three or four days after the interruption of my discussions with OL, Pablo (Longoria) called me. I knew what type of team OM was, I asked for a day of reflection to give my decision. I called my staff, we started working, we got an idea. And we decided to come, without any worry or hesitation. Because, I’ve said it before, you have to have two lives to say no to an adventure like this, and I only have one. »
