Barcelona coach Xavi admitted that he was expecting reinforcements in January.

FC Barcelona has recently experienced a decline in the Spanish championship. The championship title is not yet lost, but the Blaugrana have every interest in recovering as quickly as possible. For this, new faces are needed at this time. A point that even Xavi, the team coach, insisted on this Saturday.

Xavi calls for reinforcements

Before the meeting against Barbastro in the Copa del Rey, the Catalan technician recalled that he was waiting for new signings during this January transfer window. The arrival of Vitor Roque is not enough in his eyes to compete with Girona and Real. “With Gavi’s injury, a reinforcement in midfield would be welcome. We are in constant contact with Deco, Yuste and others. Roque is a signing for the future. But there could also be bets for the present.”

Xavi also said he wanted to keep Sergi Roberto in his squad. “I would recommend to the club to renew Sergi Roberto. They already know it. He is important, he can play in several positions. Very few things need to be explained to him. He knows what Barça is. He is a very criticized footballer, but he always gives the level. I’m very happy with him.”

Vitor Roque lined up on Sunday

Regarding Vitor Roque, Xavi has made it known that he will try to give him playing time this weekend: “I think he physically needs pace and minutes and tomorrow he will have them. We’ll see how much. But yes, it’s a match for players who don’t usually play, but without any experience. It’s not an easy match. We know the precedents.”
