Last in Ligue 1, Clermont got rid of Metz on penalties (1-1, 1 tab 3), Friday evening, in the 32nd final of the Coupe de France.
There was one certainty before the sixth match of the 32e final of the Coupe de France: a second Ligue 1 club would continue the adventure. And it is therefore Clermont which validated its ticket for the next round at the expense of Metz, thus joining Rodez, the Racing Club de France, Feignies-Aulnoye, Valenciennes and Nantes, which overthrew Pau in the wake of a Tino Kadewere inspired (1-4). A qualification which was decided on penalties (1-1, 1 tab 3).
Frustrating for the Messins, who started the match better. Despite the absences of Matthieu Udol, suspended, Kévin Van Den Kerkhof, Fali Candé, Lamine Camara and Abile Jallow, selected for CAN 2024, Laszlo Bölöni’s players actually opened the scoring through Sadibou Sané, author of a splendid shot into the top corner (1-0, 22e). But as too often since the start of the season, the FCM machine stalled offensively.
A boon for the Clermontois who, upon returning from the locker room, came back to score with a goal from Jim Allevinah (1-1, 48e) and held on until the penalty shootout. Moment chosen by the Auvergne club goalkeeper, Massamba Ndiaye, to play the hero. The usual replacement for Mory Diaw thus repelled three of the four opposing attempts and sent his team to the round of 16. A breath of fresh air for the red lantern in Ligue 1!
