Kylian Mbappé has made history, scoring a hat-trick as France achieved their biggest win ever with a 14-0 victory over Gibraltar on Saturday.
It was a rampant performance from Les Bleus, with nine players finding the net after an own goal from Gibraltar’s Ethan Santos just three minutes into the game in Nice.
Santos was later sent off after 18 minutes, as the floodgates opened for Didier Deschamps’ team. At that point, Gibraltar was already 3-0 down, with goals from Marcus Thuram and debutant Warren Zaïre-Emery, who was unfortunately forced off due to injury.
Mbappé’s hat-trick saw him achieve a career tally of 300 goals at just 24 years old, with the third goal coming from a stunning 45-yard strike that caught the Gibraltar goalkeeper by surprise. His 300 goals include 46 for France and 254 club goals with PSG and Monaco.
Olivier Giroud also scored twice, including a bicycle kick, while Kingsley Coman added two more. Jonathan Clauss, Youssouf Fofana, Adrien Rabiot, and Ousmane Dembélé also found the net on the night.
This 14-0 win surpasses France’s previous record of a 10-0 victory over Azerbaijan in 1995. The team, who have already secured their place in next summer’s Euros in Germany, currently sits at the top of Group B ahead of their final game against Greece on Tuesday.
Unfortunately, Gibraltar failed to pick up a single point in the group stage and has a goal difference of -35 from their seven games.
