A great way to wish your supporters a pleasant New Year. This Monday at the beginning of the afternoon, PSG made the arrival of Lucas Beraldo official through a video where the players of the capital club sent their best wishes to the Parisian fans. The 20-year-old defender, trained in Sao Paulo, arrives at the Parc des Princes this winter and will want to become a major asset for a Parisian defense that is far from being calm yet this season. Arrived for more than 20 million euros and under contract for the next five seasons with Paris, the left-hander is therefore also an investment of high esteem for the Parisian leaders.
However, a transfer of this magnitude very early in a career would be enough to turn more than one head. An arrival with a European big name of which the Brazilian U20 international still does not seem to have realized, as he confided during his first interview with the club media. Nevertheless, Lucas Beraldo arrives with ambition at the Rouge et Bleu and wants to win a lot of titles in Paris: “I am very happy. I don’t think I have yet realized that I am in this very, very big club that is Paris Saint-Germain. In Brazil, Paris Saint-Germain is a very famous club. And I don’t think it’s just in Brazil, since in France, it’s the most successful team and they’ve demonstrated it in recent years. I think that weighed heavily in my decision to come to the biggest French club, not just to be an extra player, but to be able to bring something extra to the team, so that we can continue to win titles. I am very motivated to be able, as I said before, to win trophies with the jersey of this club.»
Lucas Beraldo is looking forward to playing with Marquinhos and Luis Enrique
From his first statements, Lucas Beraldo therefore seems hungry for titles under the Parisian tunic. While PSG has been running behind the Champions League for so many years, it seems that this is a common objective between the Ile-de-France leaders and their new recruit. Beyond this common desire, the arrival of the young defender praised for his technical qualities was also conditioned by the impressive Brazilian heritage of the club as the latter confided: “yes, there are many Brazilian players who played in this jersey and who were very important, like Marquinhos, who is now the captain, Thiago Silva, David Luiz, and all the others. The best Brazilian central defenders have passed through here and I think that played a role in my decision to come.»
Asked then about the other reasons which made him want to join the banks of the Seine for his first experience on the Old Continent, the native of Piracicaba explained this choice by relying on the presence of Marquinhos and his tactical appetite for game by Luis Enrique: “I think so. I feel very well prepared. I spoke to the coach before and he also gave me a lot of confidence, and I think that was important for me. It’s a good thing to have Marquinhos as a central defense partner. I also think it can help me a lot because he speaks the same language as me. This is a big step forward in my career. I think so, I had already given interviews in Brazil to say that I dreamed of playing alongside him. I imagined playing with him for the Brazilian national team, but God gave me the opportunity to play alongside him every day at Paris Saint-Germain. I think that weighed heavily in my choice. I really identified with his style of play, the fact that he offers play and that he always keeps the ball. That’s how I like to play, that’s how I have fun and enjoy myself on the pitch. I think that also played an important role in my decision, as did the fact that there are young players and the coach is banking on them.» These are the first words that should please Parisian supporters.
