A year and a half ago, he extended his contract with Paris Saint-Germain. A few months ago, he refused to activate the optional year which appeared on his contract. This Monday, January 1, it’s official, Kylian Mbappé has the right to discuss and sign with the club of his choice for the rest of his career. Two options seem to prevail in his thinking at the moment: staying in Paris or signing up with Real Madrid. Other possibilities exist, but the final choice of the French striker remains a mystery for the moment.
And perhaps it will last until the last hours of his current contract with PSG. In 2022, Kylian Mbappé expressed his desire to join Real Madrid, but an offer that could not be refused finally convinced him to stay at Paris Saint-Germain. Arriving in 2017, the Bondynois secretly hoped to mark the club’s history by bringing it the first Champions League in its history. Seven years later, he still hasn’t succeeded and at twenty-five years old, he might well want to look elsewhere.
The good choice
If he wants to wear the Real Madrid jersey, however, he will have to decide very quickly since according to some reports, President Florentino Perez has given him an ultimatum lasting until mid-January. Believable or not, the fact is that the Madrid house has no desire to find itself a joke like in the summer of 2022. Also interested, Saudi Arabia should not be able to convince a player still in full possession of his means, too young and too talented to already draw a line under possible success in the Champions League.
The Premier League also remains on the lookout, notably with Liverpool, despite Jürgen Klopp’s denials when the press asked him about a possible arrival of Kylian Mbappé at Anfield. It is therefore among all his options – and surely many others – that the French world champion can now choose since Monday January 1st. It remains to be seen what his final choice will be. And above all, if his decision will be the right one for him.
