While he was part of the list of 26 selected, Amine Gouiri will ultimately not participate in the CAN with Algeria.
Hard blow for the Algerian selection. Two weeks before its entry into the CAN, the team recorded the defection of one of its main elements in attack. Amine Gouiri withdrew from this tournament due to injury.
Gouiri, a last minute package
On its official website, the FAF specified that “After examination by the medical staff of the national team and also based on the medical file of his club, Stade Rennais FC, it was decided to spare the player and allow him to recover properly.”
Selected for the first time last October, the former Nice striker will therefore give up on the competition he so hoped to play. Bad news for him and also for the Greens.
Belmadi will not call a replacement
Djamel Belmadi, the coach, had the possibility of calling a replacement to compensate for this absence. But, curiously, he chose to stay with the squad he has at his disposal. The Fennecs will travel to Ivory Coast with only 25 players.
As a reminder, Algeria will play in Group D of the CAN. She will face Angola, Burkina Faso and Mauritania.
