Two weeks ago, David Alaba’s 2023-24 season came to an end after he suffered a serious knee injury against Villarreal.
The Austrian defender ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament, meaning he won’t be able to play again until the season – nor will he take part in next summer’s Euros. Initially, it was thought that Alaba would be available for the start of next season, alongside Thibaut Courtois, who also injured his anterior cruciate ligament in August. Spanish journalist Ramon Alvarez de Mon in fact indicated that the injury had affected the meniscus (as in the case of Gavi) and the cartilage, which could prolong the defender’s unavailability for up to 10 months. A more serious injury than initially expected…
“In addition to the cruciate ligament, Alaba was affected in the meniscus and cartilage. To try to regenerate the cartilage, micro-perforations were made which encourage the arrival of blood into the tissues. This will delay healing a bit, but it’s much better for the player’s career“.
Real Madrid will want to ensure that Alaba does not rush back from his injury, especially in the current circumstances. This news could also mean that the Whites are undoubtedly looking to sign another central defender, whether in January or next summer.
