Zidane, it’s over…

Carlo Ancelotti’s contract extension at Real Madrid closes this avenue for Zinedine Zidane, if indeed she was really active.

The announcement came on Friday. As revealed a few hours earlier by several media, Real Madrid has formalized the extension of Carlo Ancelotti until 2026. The Italian technician will therefore remain on the Merengues bench, he who was courted by the Brazilian selection.

So that’s one less track for… Zinedine Zidane. The former point guard left the White House in 2021, looking for a new challenge. His goal was to take control of the destiny of the France team, but Didier Deschamps opposed this, also extending his contract until 2026, clearly closing the door of the Blues to “Zizou”.

From then on, all that remained for Zidane was to head to a club, but he still had to find one that found favor in his eyes. This is obviously not the case for Paris Saint-Germain, while Juventus remains an option. A return to Real Madrid, one more, was therefore a possibility mentioned here and there. But it is not certain that this corresponded to the wish of “ZZ” himself, and nothing says either that Florentino Perez would have called on the Frenchman in the event of Ancelotti’s departure, because he could also turn to Raul or Xabi Alonso. Now, at least, it’s clear: Zidane is not about to return to Real Madrid.
