After having capsized Old Trafford by overthrowing Aston Villa during the 19th day of the Premier League (3-2), Manchester United had to confirm on the lawn of Nottingham Forest in order to reassure themselves before the start of 2024. But while the he Red Devils’ attack remains broken down this season, they were forced to do without Rasmus Hojlund, who was ill and withdrew at the last minute. Forest quickly showed itself to be dangerous and Varane was close to deflecting a first opportunity against his side (11th).

But apart from that, nothing happened and Forest seemed to be quietly waiting for a mistake from the Mancunian defense. For their part, the Red Devils produced nothing and the Garnacho-Rashford-Antony attack was non-existent in the first act. The second half started on a better basis, with Manchester United more present in the game. Dalot even had the best opportunity so far, but the Portuguese found the goal (55th). The locals punished straight away. Elanga, the ex-Red Devil, found Montiel on the edge of offside… who could pass to Dominguez for the opener (1-0, 64th).

Manchester United had nevertheless come back well

The match was finally underway and Manchester United, punished while in a strong moment, had to find the resources to come back. Not defeated by this goal conceded, MU then pushed and took advantage of a terrible error from goalkeeper Turner, whose restart was captured by Garnacho. The Argentine striker found Rashford on the opposite side, for a powerful low strike which reset the counters to zero (1-1, 77th). But the hope only lasted five minutes.

On a counter-attack from the Reds, Gibbs-White, completely forgotten by the defense, was served at the entrance to the area and was able to release a curling shot to deceive Onana and send the City Ground into a spin (2-1, 85th). Another difficult setback conceded by Erik ten Hag and his men, who find themselves in 7th place in the Premier League and are not advancing in the standings. On the other hand, Nottingham Forest move up to 15th and will spend New Year’s Eve far from the red zone thanks to these three points taken.
